Importing Contacts
If you have contact information in other computer programs such as Outlook or Gmail, it is quick and easy to import those contacts into Your Book.
When your contacts' email addresses and information are stored in a spreadsheet, or when you've exported it from another program, you can quickly and easily import that contact data directly into Your Book.
You can import comma-separated-value (.CSV) text files. Each line in the file contains multiple columns of information for a single contact, as shown in the example below. The first row can optionally contain field names – this is not necessary but it does result in a better “first guess” data mapping with less work for you in the third step.
If your contacts are currently in a spreadsheet such as Microsoft Excel, you can simply do a File -> Save As and select CSV file format
If your contacts are currently stored in another computer program such as Outlook or another CRM solution, you will need to use that program’s Export or Export to a File feature. Once you have that CSV file saved to a folder on your computer, you are ready to Import those contacts and leads into Your Book.
To begin the import process, simply click on the “Import” button at the bottom of the main screen in Your Book.
This will bring you to the first step in the Import Wizard screen flow, show below.
1- Here you will have agree that you are not uploading a purchased email list.
2- Once you have acknowledged and agreed that you are importing your personal contacts, you can click the Upload button to select your desired CSV file to be imported.
Not a Spam Engine
The Contact Import feature is intended to allow you to transfer contacts and leads from another contact database into Your Book. This is NOT intended to allow you to import purchased email lists for purposes of directly emailing (“spamming”) those email addresses.
When you import your contacts from other programs, they may use field names that are very different from the Jumptools contact attributes. We do our best to automatically figure out which columns in the CSV file should be put into which Contact fields, however there are situations where we are unable to determine which fields specific columns should map to.
In order to import the most data possible from your other program you can review our suggested mapping of file columns to Contact attributes. You can also manually specify mappings for columns that did not get automatically mapped. If there are some fields you don't want to import, you can simply leave those as Unmapped.
Once you are happy with a particular column mapping, you can lock In that selection. This helps you avoid the mistake of trying to map more than one column to the same contact attribute.
Once you are happy with the column mappings, simply click the “Do Import” button to start bringing in the contacts from your uploaded file.
In this step, you get to sort Contacts from Leads, set the lead or contact score and also indicate for each imported person whether they have consent to email them
1- Specify whether a person is a Lead, Contact or Professional Contact
2- Provide an initial Grade or Score for each person
3- Indicate whether they have given you consent to send them electronic communications (CASL consent)
4- If there are some records you don't want to import, you can simply check the "Exclude" check box and that person will not be imported
5- Once you’ve completed this quick categorization exercise, finalize the import process by clicking on the “Create Contacts” button.
Don't worry - you can always change category, grade and consent status for people once you have imported them. This just gives you a chance to do it quickly as you import them.
Once the import process has completed, the confirmation screen below will be displayed.
All contacts will be imported into a new group with the current day’s date as the group name. Once the import process has completed you will be navigated to view the newly-created group.
Your Book is compliant with the Canadian Anti-Spam Law (CASL). For each contact in Your Book, you can manage whether that individual has provided consent to receive electronic communications. As a subscriber, you agree to abide by CASL when sending electronic communications through our service.
